Meet the Manager at Raised in Bristol at Docklands Community Centre

We sat down with the wonderful Kellie from our city centre nursery in St Pauls and she told us a little bit about her time with Raised in Bristol, her early years practice and what she likes to do when she’s not busy running the nursery…

How long have you worked with Raised in Bristol?

4 years and 6 months

What do you like about your job?

I like all aspects of my job, it's a fun and creative place to be, laughing and joining in with children and team's ideas, play and practice.

What made you choose Raised In?

I started as a Deputy Nursery Manager working alongside Nicola, the Head of Nursery before the nursery opened. Once the nursery was up and running, I became the Nursery Manager. When the opportunity arose, it was something I hadn’t seen before – It was a great way to start with the company and then progress to another role. But ultimately what stood out about Raised in Bristol was their expectations and how they operate, I really respect the company’s ways of working, the ethos and our values.

When she’s not busy running the nursery Kellie loves spending time with her daughter and her family.

What’s the most rewarding thing that’s happened to you at work recently?

It's been a great few months and I've had compliments from other early years professionals about my practice. I’ve gained the courage to speak in a presentation at Bristol City Council’s Early Years Forum about how I inspire my team, and the response was amazing. And to top it all off my team bought me flowers and gave me a card with the most amazing feedback and kind words. I’m so grateful! But generally, every day working with the children is rewarding. It feels like a privilege to see them grow and flourish. I love having the flexibility to spend time in all the rooms across the nursery, joining in with their interests and getting to know them all, which makes the job so worth it.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I have a daughter who is three and I enjoy sharing new experiences with her, whether that’s horse riding, role play, going to a soft play or just exploring the world around us.

Family is really important to me – so generally just spending time together sharing food, having BBQs and going on day trips. Then when I do get the chance to have a minute for myself, I like to see friends, socialise, cook and do a spot of gardening – all always whilst having music on - I love to throw a little shape or two!

What Early Years Qualifications do you have?

I have learnt so much throughout my career – along the way gaining different qualifications that support different types of learning and Early Years practice. I have a Level 2 and 3 Certificate in Children's Care, Learning and Development and a Level 4 Certificate in Higher Education: Early Years. Additionally, I have in-depth knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stages (EYFS), Special Education Needs (SEN), health and wellbeing, mathematics, recruitment for Early Years and Paediatric First Aid.
